Kindergarten schedule for the week is: Group A comes Monday and Wednesday. Group B comes Tuesday and Thursday. There is no school for students on Friday due to Professional Development for teachers.
Don’t forget to collect and send in the orders for the Principal’s Fundraiser. The last day to turn in orders is October 25.
Each of the last four years, Merwin has earned the status of Excellent with Distinction. One of the indicators measures our attendance. Since school has started, our absence rate has been very high. In addition, several students have been arriving late and leaving early. This week alone I counted 122 tardies and early dismissals. Several students have been taken out of school for vacations and extended weekends as well. Please make every effort to have children at school on time and do not sign them out early. They need to be in school all day every day unless they are sick. With a shorter school day, we must use every minute for instruction. If sick, the attendance line must be called by 10:00. Remember that a two week notice is required in order to excuse vacations. The attendance line is 947-7804.
At the PTO meeting this week, it was announced that the following committees still need a chairperson: Father/Son Event, Mother/Son Event, and Conferences Dinners for Teachers. Other activities needed for overseeing school projects are: Coke Rewards, Target Red Card and Meijer Community Rewards. The area Cub Scouts will be in the cafeteria recruiting during lunches on Monday.
