Weekly Update

Hello Merwin Families!

We are headed into the final stretch and are excited about opening school this week.  Teachers return on Wednesday and by Friday, everything will be in place for opening day 2011.  I can’t wait!

Our last transportation meeting will be Monday night at 7:00 and don’t forget that Officer Doerman will be here for a safety class for students who will walk or ride a bike.  This class is optional and a community service by Pierce Twp. Police Department.  If you were not able to make any of the meetings, it is important to stop by school and pick up your child’s book bag tag.  Every child must have a book bag tag at dismissal.  I would like to commend all of you for your understanding with the transportation plan.  Remember that the safety of your children is our primary concern!

Kindergarten parents will be receiving a letter from me announcing that the Kindergarten staff has been set for the district and we were therefore able to place all children in classes.  This way you will know who your child’s teacher is and can show him/her the room prior to opening day.  You can do this at Open House on Thursday evening at 7:15.  This is a change from the original Open House day and time.  The class lists are also posted on the front door of the school.

Remember, Open House for all students will be this Thursday, September 1st.  Grades 1, 2, and 3 will have Open House at 6:00 and Grades KG, 4, and 5 will be at 7:15.  You will be able to meet the teacher and locate classrooms which is important because parents will not be able to enter the building at arrival on opening day.  Mrs. Brown, 5th grade math teacher, will not be at Open House as she will be taking one of her children to opening day of college!  You may contact her at school on August 31st if you have a need to speak with her.
