Weekly Update

Happy New Year!

January is School Board Recognition Month.  We are preparing a special tribute for WC School Board members from Merwin students! 

Please join me in a special welcome to Mrs. Homan who will be the Merwin music teacher for the rest of the year.  Mrs. Homan shadowed Mrs. Holmes for two days before she left and she is eager to start.  We are so very lucky to have found her at this point of the school year!  Welcome to Merwin Mrs. Homan.

Specials for this week are:  Monday/Blue, Tuesday/Red, Wednesday/Yellow, Thursday/Green, and Friday/Blue.

Wednesday, Life Touch will be here to take group pictures for the yearbook.  So we need to make it a special day.  Therefore, Wednesday will be Twin Day, or Triplet Day, or so on!  Find someone at Merwin to be your twin, and dress alike! There is no limit to the number of look-alikes in your group.   It can be a staff member, a friend, or even a sibling.  You just may find your picture with your look-alike in our yearbook! 

The Music Showcase for all 5th graders has been rescheduled for February 17.  We will be using the permission form that you already signed.

We are quite proud of our new lunch schedule.  We have found that the lunch room is much more relaxing for students without the rush of a ten minute rotation.  We will continue to use the new schedule the remainder of the school year.  The new schedule is:
11:30 – 2nd grade
11:45 – 1st grade
12:00 – 3rd grade
12:15 – 4th grade
12:30 – 5th grade

Mad science classes will begin again on January 10.  Sign-up sheets will be carried home this week.  Students in grades 1-5 are eligible.

As you are aware, all Merwin students are assessed for literacy skills three times a year.  Our second DIBELS Next assessment will be the week of January 10.
