I would like to start with asking if you know of anyone who loves to work with children and would be interested in two afternoon very short aide positions available immediately. One position is for 2 hours a day Monday through Friday and the other position is for 1.5 hours per day also Monday through Friday. The pay is small but the rewards for helping children learn to read are priceless. Please call school if you are interested.
It is very important that all Emergency Medical Forms be returned to school no later than tomorrow (Monday). We are required to exclude students from school if we do not have these forms. Please make sure that you keep the information current throughout the school year.
I also wanted to remind you that it is very important that you call the attendance line at 947-7804 before 10:00 when your child is absent. If students are tardy, remember that a parent is required to sign the child in at the office. Also, when picking up your child at school, please be prepared to show your ID.
This week Monday is Yellow Day, Tuesday is Green Day, Wednesday is Blue Day and Thursday is Red Day. Friday there is no school for students due to teacher in-service.
Skills groups will begin this week for grades 1-5. As you may recall from past years, students are grouped according to skill needs and receive specialized instruction for 30 minutes each day.
We have received the logins for Study Island and Fastt Math and intend for both of these programs to begin next week.
Your children brought home Walk-a-thon information on Friday. They viewed a short video concerning prizes and safety. It is my hope that all Merwin students will participate in this PTO fundraiser as it funds many of the programs throughout the school year. If your child did not receive this information, it is available through the teacher or in the office. The Walk-a-thon is scheduled for October 1.
This year Merwin students will take the new DIBELS Next assessment. This individual assessment helps us tailor instruction to student needs during skills groups and language/reading classes. Theses assessments are given three times a year and the first time begins this week and continues next week.
Monday and Wednesday Girls on the Run will meet in the Library. Pick up is at 4:40.
Tuesday at 7:00, Janet Cotner and I will be available at school to assist parents in maneuvering through the Merwin online community which includes teacher blogs and our school calendar. It will not take long to help you join online and then work through the commands. I hope you can join us. To reserve a seat, call Janet at 947-9489.
Wednesday is the last registration for PTO dance classes from 6:30-8:30 in the lobby.
Friday is the first in-service day so there is no school for students.
