Weekly Update, March 25

The Kindergarten schedule for the week is:  Group A comes Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Group B comes Tuesday and Thursday.

Monday we begin our 4th quarter arrival and dismissal jobs as teachers shift jobs each quarter.  We will also begin our new dismissal process.  Students cannot be picked up in the office from 2:40 to 3:25.  If you need to pick up your child each day, ask for a walker tag and students will be dismissed at 3:00 at the end of the 4th grade wing.  If you just need to pick up your student occasionally, just send in a note asking for a one day “walker pass”.  Students picked up before 2:40 will receive a tardy.  I am sorry but we cannot make exceptions as the public-address system will be used by the car-caller.

We will continue to have C’Motion this week.  Thank you for providing this activity for our students.

Monday there will be an assembly for 5th graders to hear about the opportunities to play an instrument in 6th grade.  In the past, many Merwin students have been in band and orchestra.  I really encourage them to get involved in school activities and band is a great place to start.

Tuesday is the last day of 3rd quarter.  Report cards will be carried home on April 13.  I will also hold Rodeos on April 13 which is the time that honor roll and perfect attendance certificates are handed out.

Wednesday is Spring Picture day for Kindergarten Group A students.  Thursday, everyone else will have pictures taken.  You will not pay for pictures until they arrive and you approve of them.  Do not send money to school yet.

Wednesday there is a statewide tornado drill.  We will hold our tornado drill at 9:10.  Please try to be at school on time that day.

Thursday students will carry home the April Merwin Messenger.  It will contain important information about community meetings that are scheduled for our district.  I am hoping that our parents will get involved in these meetings and help with passage of the levy.  This information will also be on our website.  I hope I will see you at one of the meetings on April 30 or May 2.

Teachers are beginning the process of placing students in classes for next year.  This is a long and very important process.  I included a copy of the NONREQUEST POLICY in the newsletter.  Please make sure you read and understand it!  Call school if you need clarification.

This week is the last week of school before spring break which is April 2-6.  When we get back we will continue the big review for the OAA.  Attendance at school every day is very important!

When we return from spring break, the last book fair of the year will begin.  It is a “buy one get one free” book fair and our favorite one of the year!  Make sure you know what day your student is scheduled as there will be no make-up sessions.
