I hope you are enjoying the holiday season with your family. We have an exciting week planned. Next week is Spirit Week. Students can wear their favorite Merwin spirit wear on Monday and Tuesday, but with a twist. Decorate your shirt for the holidays. Then on Wednesday we will have Christmas sock day. Thursday is Christmas hat day. Friday is Christmas shirt day. We hope this will end the week with everyone in the Christmas spirit!
Tuesday 5th graders will travel to the Amelia High School Performing Arts Center for the music sampler. Please encourage your children to get involved in activities at school. In the past, many Merwin students have participated in chorus and band at the middle school. Shortly after the holidays, 5th graders will be selecting electives for 6th grade.
Wednesday Clermont County Seniors will come to Merwin for an activity that our students have grown to love. The 5th graders have prepared boxes with everyday necessities and each student will present their boxes to be taken to nursing homes and shut-ins around the county. Then the seniors will sing some holiday favorites for us.
Thursday we will have a short practice for our sing along which will take place on Friday for students in grades 1-5. Also on Thursday, Kindergarten B classes will have their winter party at 1:00.
Friday Merwin staff will have their annual holiday breakfast but intend to be in the parking lot by 8:45. At 9:30 we will have our sing-a-long in the gym and at 1:00 we will have our winter parties. All volunteers are free to sign out their students in the classroom, but must exit the parking lot by 2:15 in order to accommodate dismissal.
Mrs. Kingsley has asked me to announce that the Labels for Education Contest was won by Mrs. Orleck’s class. Close to 5000 points were collected this time and our school now has over 40,000 points to redeem for playground toys such as balls. Thanks to everyone who participated and to Mrs. Kingsley for chairing this program.
We return to school on January 3, 2012. The next weekly message will be sent out on Monday, January 2 due to the holiday on Sunday. Have a safe and happy holiday.
