Weekly Update

The schedule for KG for this week is:  Group A is Monday and Wednesday; Group B is Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Monday evening Merwin Elementary staff will be recognized at the West Clermont Board of Eeducation meeting for the Excellent with Distinction rating by the State of Ohio.

Tuesday and Wednesday we will hold our annual PTO fundraiser, the Fit-a-thon.  Kindergarten/B, 2nd and 3rd grade students will participate on Tuesday.  Kindergarten/A, 1st, 4th and 5th grade students will participate on Wednesday.  It is important for students to dress in comfortable clothes and gym shoes are a must!  Deb Hinman is the chair for this event and welcomes volunteers who are available to assist.  The event will run from 12-2:45 on Tuesday and 10-2:45 on Wednesday.

DIBELS assessments will finally be completed on Monday.  We will do sorts once the data is entered in order to place students in "just right" skills groups.

Not this week, but the following week is the first week of October and it is count week for state funding.  It is always important for students to be at school every day, but count week is how the state determines our per student funding.  If your child is sick, it is important to call school by 10:00 and send a note when the child returns.  Doctor notes are especially helpful. 

The first week of October is also one of our testing weeks.  This year for the first time the SAT tests are being administered to 5th graders.  They will test Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.  Third graders will take the Fall Reading OAA on Wednesday.  Fifth graders will bring home a letter of explanation on Wednesday and third graders will bring home a letter of explanation on Tuesday.  Please try to have children at school on time on these days.

The October newsletter will be available online on Thursday this week.  If you did not sign up for our online community, please do so as soon as possible to keep up to date on the latest information.  We will send newsletters home for October, but want as many families as possible to please help us cut cost by going paperless.  Call school if you need assistance joining.

I sincerely appreciate those parents who called to say "I will help with the Levy."  If you aren't a parent who is waiting in line each day, or walking to and from school, you are quite fortunate.  The Merwin staff is hard at work each day to provide safe arrival and dismissal.  I want you to know that teachers are staying beyond their contractual day to provide this service to your children.  I could not do it without them.  Thanks to parents who have tried to follow the procedures.  Again I request that parents not enter the lot from Merwin Ten Mile unless you have a medical pick up and drop off.
