We have worked out many of the glitches with the arrival and dismissal procedures. I want to thank you for your patience and encouragement. We have an awesome group of kids who have practiced and learned what they need to do each day! As we make small changes, they have stepped up. We have learned that the KG and 1st graders need to be with their teachers if they are pick up students as the gym is too loud for them. So we adjusted that. We moved all bus riders and walkers/bike riders out of the gym. That allows teachers in the gym to concentrate on numbers. Last week one of the school psychologists wrote a computer program that pulls up the student names as their pick up numbers are announced. I am in the process of entering our students and hope to have it finished at dismissal tomorrow. We have also made a walker/bike rider pass to be issued to students if students want to walk and have a pick up number. Just send a note each day you would to change to walk and a pass will be issued to your child who will then be dismissed at the end of the 4th grade wing. Remember KG and 1st grade students must be accompanied by an adult or older sibling.
If you have someone who did not come to the transportation meeting picking up your children, we are finding that they do not know about entering the school from Bennett Road. Please take a minute to explain this.
We also have made special signs for the dashboard of cars who pick up medically fragile students. This involves 5 students. They must come in from Merwin Ten Mile and leave school immediately. Although they may look like everyone else, there is a reason such as a student who is a diabetic whose blood read at 68 by the time he got home the first day of school. Please trust our judgment on these students and do not get angry when you some people with dashboard signs come in off of Merwin Ten Mile. We have also made signs for the dashboard of support staff as we have instructed them to come in off of Merwin so they can be here on time.
One last thing which would really help concerns the drivers of the cars. Please close the gaps between cars. Some drivers are stopping when they see their children exit the building and that does not allow other drivers to enter the pick up zone. If we all follow the procedures, the lines will move faster for everyone. On Friday, we finished dismissal at 3:27. We started preparing students for dismissal a little early in order to teach routines. We will not dismiss students until 3:00 starting Monday. Our goal is to complete the process by 3:15. I think we can do it!
KG for this week: Monday and Wednesday Group A; Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday Group B
Wednesday students who completed and returned summer packets will receive a popsicle at lunch. Also during lunch on Wednesday, the Cub Scouts will be in the cafeteria to pass out information to boys who are interested in joining.
Thursday is picture day for grades 1-5 and Kindergarten Group B. Students in Kindergarten Group A will have their pictures taken on Monday, Sept. 19th. Picture flyers were carried home last week. KG Group A students should keep their packets until the 19th. Remember that pictures must be paid for when they are taken in order to purchase them. Prices are on the flyers.
Friday is once again Team Spirit Day! Wear your favorite team shirt or hat!
