Weekly Update

This is Mrs. Hospelhorn's information to start the 2011 school year!

Each week when I call, I will give important information about the week and upcoming events.  If your call is cut off or you miss it, you can look on our website or call 947-7860 to hear it again.  If there is a non custodial parent or even grandparents who would like to know what is happening at Merwin, give them the number to call.  It is available 24/7.

The Kindergarten schedule this week is:  Monday-no school, Tuesday-B group; Wednesday-A group; Thursday-B group; Friday-A group. 

Thank you to all parents who have attended the transportation meetings or came in and picked up tags.  If your child does not have book bag tags for opening day, you will need to stop by the office prior to dismissal on Tuesday.  Please remember to enter the school lot from Bennett Rd. for both drop off and pick up.  Also remember not to talk on a cell or text when on the lot so that you can concentrate on the safety of our children.  I apologize in advance for the long delays but assure you that we will get better as time goes on and that the delays are worth the safe return of your children.

If you picked up your opening day packets at Open House, there will be an additional paper coming home Tuesday concerning joining Big Tent, our school website and classroom blogs.  Please make sure to return all required documents to school.

To end our first week in a special way, we will make Friday a "favorite team day."  Wear a shirt or hat that represents your favorite team.  It can be your soccer team, football team, the Ohio State Buckeyes, or even the Amelia Barons!  Expect harassment if you wear a Michigan shirt like Mrs. Renken always does!  We will have a fun day.  We will do the exact same thing the next Friday so that all of our KG students can participate!

For the time being, we will not be accepting visitors for lunch.

Remember that breakfast is available at school.  This year breakfast and lunch menus will be available on line. 

School pictures will be taken on September 15.  We are working on another date for our KG Group A and will let you know when it is.

The Merwin PTO provided breakfast and lunch for our staff on Friday.  A big thank you goes out to Jenny Pera and the many parents who helped gather and serve.  Also thank you to all parents who brought their children to our mock drills Friday. 

Fourth and 5th graders will carry home their OAA scores on Tuesday.  Please call me if you need assistance in understanding your child's scores.

DIBELS assessments and the KRAL Kindergarten assessments will start next week.  These are required by the district.

The first week of October the 5th graders will take the SAT and 3rd graders will take the fall OAA Reading Assessment.  The first week of October is also Count Week for state funding and it is very important that your child be in school every day unless of course he/she is ill and then we will need a doctor note.
