A big thank you goes out to everyone for the successful Walk-a-thon on Friday. A special thank you goes out to Beth Reynolds and her volunteers for a great event for the Merwin students.
Last week I was reminded that it is October Count Week for all schools in Ohio this week. That means that we receive our funding for the year by the number of students in attendance each day. Remember that it is important for children to be in school each day. If a child is absent, we must have a doctor excuse explaining why the child was absent or a written note from the parent also containing the reason AND do not forget to call the attendance line also at 947-7804.
All week students in grades 2 and 4 will be taking the Stanford Achievement Tests and the Otis Lennon School Ability Test. It is very important that students be in school on time each day.
We are finally ready to have visitors for lunch, however, we are very crowded in the lunchroom this year. We will use the same restrictions as last year: Monday is 1st grade day, Tuesday is 2nd grade day, Wednesday is 3rd grade day, Thursday is 4th grade day, and Friday is 5th grade day. Again, due to space, visitors are limited to parents and grandparents.
The Study Island Contest for October is: the class that answers the most math questions with the highest percent of accuracy will win a full sized candy bar! The contest ends on October 31st at midnight. This year the contest is open to 2nd graders as well as 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.
This week for specials: Monday is Green day, Tuesday is Blue day, Wednesday is Red day, Thursday is Yellow day, and Friday is Green day.
Monday after school Girls on the Run will meet in the library and Mad Science classes will meet in the same rooms as last week.
Tuesday evening at 7:00 there is a meeting for all Fall Festival planners in the gym.
Wednesday all 3rd graders will take the Fall Ohio Achievement Assessment in Reading. They will test all morning. Wednesday after school Girls on the Run will meet in the library and Dance classes will be held at the regular time in the music room.
Thursday is the first meeting of the Karate Club after school in the gym. Registration and payment are due at this time. Remember that all money collected for Karate Club is given to Merwin. Thursday is also the first meeting of the Bowling classes after school. Students are transported by bus to Cherry Grove Lanes and parents pick up students there.
Friday students will carry home interim reports for first quarter. Also on Friday, dance classes will be held at the scheduled time in the music room.
Looking ahead, COSI on Wheels will be at Merwin on October 12 and 13. Volunteers are needed. If you can help both or one day or even for a few hours, please call school.
